My name is Melinda Persson and I offer DIRI’s developing range of services. I have myself worked in industry all over Sweden. This is how I became aware of the risk of Health & Safety hazards in the workplace. Risks that my services at DIRI aim to help eliminate.
I was originally employed by an outplacement firm and sent out to work at very many different industrial companies. However, the issues I encountered on site were almost always the same. I very seldom received adequate safety information, unless I specifically asked for it, or in some cases unless I repeatedly insisted on it.
There have been moments working at different industrial plants, when I totally unknowingly have inhaled, or risked inhaling, heavy metals, cyanide gas, hydrogen sulfide and other dangerous substances. I have handled corrosive and acidic substances without wearing adequate protective gloves and worked with machines that have jumpstarted into action by mistake.
Over and over again, the relevant hazard & safety information was out there, but for some reason, it got waylaid on its way down to me. There have been designated workplace health & safety plans in place, but for some reason I arrived at the wrong time and never got to see them – because they were lying in someone’s car.
At times unfortunately, there was not even any verifiable, relevant information on hand at all. We proceeded to work merely following previous methods we had once been taught, simply because these were what was familiar.
“But this is how we’ve always done it!”
– Well, we have all heard that one before.
At DIRI we create a toolbox where we not only quickly and easily list all and any risks involved when it comes to workplace safety.
We also accumulate the reliable data and information which we need to protect the employer and the employee, without creating long lines of information that can get lost along the way.

Workplace safety information travels through various channels and does not always reach the practitioner it is intended for.
This means knowledge gets lost, which in turn generates a culture of reduced workplace safety.
Just trying to get understanding of and a grip on all the laws and regulations involved in the first place, can sometimes seem an impossible task for any employer.
When everyone uses one and the same source, this creates a reliable, national, knowledge base, built on research and studies.
Every new piece of work completed, means information is generated on how different risks affect us – so knowledge grows, and along with it – a positive culture of workplace safety develops.
When we collaborate at all levels, the level of control increases. More eyes on the job in the same workplace, create higher levels of workplace safety.
